Ranay Reynolds Thompson was born June 18th, 1979 to Gary Reynolds and Kathryn Pilling Reynolds, in Idaho Falls, ID. She has 2 older and 1 younger brothers and one older sister. Ranay has lived in Idaho Falls ever since her birth. The only other place she has lived was in Rexburg after she married. One thing Ranay remembers about her childhood was when she was around 5 or 6 years old, she was jumping on the trampoline and the neighbor boy was golfing rocks off his back steps. One split into pieces and came over the fence into Ranay's backyard and sliced her right cheek. "I had to have seven stitches. The doctor took a few of them out too early and that left a scar." Ranay went to Fairview Elementary School until third grade when the family moved out to Ammon. She then went to Ammon Elementary School, then to Sandcreek Middle School, and graduated from Hillcrest High School in 1997. While in middle school, Ranay started playing volleyball, basketball, and ran track. She continued these activities through part of high school. She was also a member of the Business Professionals of America and sang in the choir throughout high school. Ranay got her first job working at Arby's until she was hired on at County Seat, a clothing store in the mall. When she graduated from high school, she worked as a student assistant in the Personnel Services Department at Ricks College while going to school there. Right before graduated from Ricks, in 1999, with an Associate Degree in Office Management, Ranay secured a job as a receptionist/secretary in the President's Office to President Bednar, who has later become one of the Twelve Apostles. She worked in that office for 3 years. She was there when Ricks transitioned to B.Y.U./Idaho. After Ranay and Derick married, they lived in Rexburg for one year and then moved to Idaho Falls in August 2000, and she was hired as an office manager at ML Technologies. She later took a job at Potandon Produce (Green Giant) in their Accounts Receivable Department until their first baby, Nathan, was born in 2003. While in 8th grade, Ranay met Derick Thompson. "We were kind of off and on a few times, but after our sophomore year, we were together and never looked back. We attended one year of college together at Ricks before he left on his mission. We were married 2 months after he got back in August, 1999. We are looking forward to ur 10 year reunion this upcoming August." Ranay and Derick have 3 children, Nathan-March 15, 2003, Spencer-July 29, 2005, and Brianna-March 12, 2009. Ranay likes to play the piano, sing, and scrapbook. She loves being a mom and she is thankful she can stay home and enjoy her kids. "We are getting busier and busier as the kids get more involved in school and in sports. I recently agreed to be on the PTO board at Nathan's grade school for the next school year and am looking forward to being involved. I enjoy working side by side with Derick and am thankful to have him as my husband. We just try to do the best we can as a parent, son and daughter, neighbor, and friend." We are very glad to get to know Ranay better. She is a quiet giant in our family. Thanks Ranay.
New Spotlight :
This family member knocked himself out with a sledge hammer while helping put up a fence when he was 7 years old. He had a dog, Tippy, who was his best friend from the age of 1 through when he was on his mission when Tippy died. He is the youngest of 4 children and has won "huge" belt buckles while competing in rodeos from pre-school through high school. Do you know who this family member is? Take a wild guess.

She is able to get around with her walker better each day and has even been able to get into the car, with help, and take a ride. She is sorry that she can't get outside to work in her garden but wants everyone to know how much they appreciate everyone's help and concern. She also wants to announce that if anyone wants raspberries, they can be picked Tuesday's, Thursday's, and Saturday's. If you want some, please let her know so she can schedule you to come and pick your own.

Energizing Couch Potatoes
We decided to allow each child one 'free' hour of computer, television, or video game time a day. They can mix and match these zctivities if they want o, but if they watch a sibling doing any of these things, that counts for their hour. After they have used their free hour, our chidlren can then earn up to another hour for that day by engaging in other healthy or useful activites. For instance, they can provide an hour of service for another family member to earn 15 extra minutes. Practicing the piano an hour beyond the regular practice time earns another 15 minutes. Hour-long activities such as exercising, or playing outdoors, reading a book, or playing constructively with a friend are also encouraged. Theyc an earn an extra hour in 15 minute increments, but we limit computer and T.V. time to two hours a day maximum. How do we keep track of it all? Initially we made a chart to record the 15 minute earnings, but we soon switched to the honor system. In fact, our children seem to enjoy the constructive activites so much that they sometimes accrue T.V. time and don't bother to use it..." From the January Ensign, 2008; page 74.

Joke:
"A cowboy, who is visiting Wyoming from Texas, walks into a bar and orders three mugs of Bud. He sits in the back of the room, drinking a sip out of each one in turn. When he finishes them, he comes back to the bar and orders 3 more. The bartender approaches and tells the cowboy, 'You know, a mug goes flat after I draw it. It would taste better if you bought one at a time.'
The cowboy replies, 'Well, you see, I have 2 brothers. ONe is in Arizone, the other is in Colorado. When we all left our home in Texas, we promised that we'd drink this way to remember the days when we drank together. So I'm drinking one beer for each of my brothers and one for myself.'
The bartender admits that this is a nice custom, and leaves it there. The cowboy becomes a regular in the bar, and always drinks the same way. He orders three mugs and drinks them in turn. One day, he comes in and only order two mugs. All the regulars take notice and fall silent. When he comes back to the bar for the second round, the bartender says, 'I don't want to intrude on your grief, but I wanted to offer my condolences on your loss.'
The cowboy looks quite puzzled for a moment then a light dawns in his eyes and he laughs. 'Oh no, everybody's fine. It's just that my wife and I joined the Mormon Church and I had to quit drinking. It hasn't affected my brothers though.'"
See you next month. Have a great 4th of July.
Looks good Judy!
